Overview

The TAK Developer Track features a curriculum designed to teach software engineers about the various Application Program Interfaces (APIs) of the TAK software development kits. As part of the event, developers will receive hands-on training writing their own plugins for the following TAK products:

• ATAK
• TAK Server
• TAKX
• VTAK
• WebTAK
• WinTAK

Requirements

The training is targeted at developers, so you must have experience developing software using an object-oriented programming language such as Java, C#, or JavaScript.

You also must have access to the TAK Dev Tools and complete the setup described on Developer Policies. (For the portion of the page that indicates to request GitLab group access after logging in, simply indicate that you need SDK access. The admins will add you to the appropriate SDK group based on your sponsor.) If you cannot access this page, your account is not configured for TAK Dev Tools. Contact support@tak.gov for assistance if you believe this is a mistake.

Instructions for setting up your development environment for each TAK product have been uploaded to Developer Track 2021. You must have the setup completed prior to the start of training as there will not be time to troubleshoot setup issues during the training sessions. Setup support will be offered via Zoom and Mattermost the week before training (see the same Confluence page for details). If you have any issues accessing the link above, please reach out to support@tak.gov, as it likely means your account permissions are not set correctly.

Registration Instructions

You may choose to attend the whole week or individual sessions of interest, though all participants are encouraged to attend the intro session on Monday morning as it will cover logistics for the week as well as some common aspects of the TAK API that are relevant to all of the products.

To register: log into TAK.gov, follow the links in the schedule below for each session you would like to attend, and RSVP at the top of the session page(s). (Note: the links will not be active until you are logged in. If you are logged in and they are still not active, follow the instructions above in the Requirements section to ensure your permissions are correct.)

Each training session is limited to 50 developers so please only register for the session(s) you can commit to attending. All sessions will be recorded and training materials will be distributed after the event.
