(March 20, 2025) - In the snowy hills of Bavaria, Germany, the Patriot Brigade enhanced its readiness to “fight tonight” by leveraging updated networked communications as part of the Army’s transformation in contact efforts.

. – December 15th, 2025– The Army’s Program Executive Office for Aviation and Uncrewed Aircraft Systems Project Management Office, have issued a Technical Directive to Skydio Inc. under the Short-Range Reconnaissance (SRR) contract to procure X10D unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). Skydio is one of the vendors selected to manufacture SRR systems, and the Army continues to equip the Transformation in Contact (TiC) units with reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition (RSTA) systems systems designed to be employed at the platoon levels.

(July 8, 2025) — Soldiers must quickly decipher an increasingly large amount of real-time battlefield data as they build and execute their mission plans. To enable better and faster battlefield decisions, U.S. Army researchers are developing a set of applications to analyze battlefield data to provide decision dominance and greater lethality.

Army medical personnel, supported by developers from Joint Operational Medicine Information Systems (JOMIS), successfully integrated the Battlefield Assisted Trauma Distributed Observation Kit-Joint (BATDOK-J) into Maven Smart System (MSS) during the 1st Mobile Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division’s Joint Readiness Training Center Rotation 25–11 in September 2025 at Fort Polk, Louisiana.

. – Soldiers with the Pennsylvania National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 109th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 28th Infantry Division, completed an intensive 96 hour force-on-force training exercise at the Combined Arms Collective Training Facility here, July 26-30, 2025, designed to simulate combat against a capable, near-peer adversary in dense urban terrain.

Israeli defense technology company SMARTSHOOTER announced it will present a new configuration of its combat-proven SMASH 3000 fire control system at the DSEI 2025 exhibition in London. The development follows the company’s participation in Project VANAHEIM/FLYTRAP, a UK–U.S. initiative aimed at accelerating the adoption of Counter-small Unmanned Aircraft System (C-sUAS) technologies for general combat units.

Combat units will field test early prototypes later this year and provide feedback for rapid upgrades, the service said, with a larger rollout in 2025.
